Odds and Ends: Weekly Cap-Off (1/17 - 1/23)

Visits to the Park this week:  3
Lots of visits into The Park this week!

We made what we lovingly began terming a "banzai run" late last Sunday evening (we'll explain more about our "banzai runs" in a post later this week), Chad went into The Park again on Monday for a brief meet-up with some Twitter friends, and we're back there again today for our DLRN tweet-up in The Park.

Last Week on Days In The Park:
On Monday we looked at a recent tour gone awry on the World Famous Jungle Cruise

Tuesday, we took you on another Vinylmation Adventure

For our "Almost" Wordless Wednesday, Mark's niece visits (and pulls faces) at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

We added another KILT (Karacters I Love Thursday) character/s, Chip & Dale, on Thursday

Friday, we gave you a quick rundown on some things going on around the site as well as a look at our first complete Vinylmation Series

And finally on Saturday we took you back inside one of our favorite places in The Parks to hang out for a little Turtle Talk With Crush

At the Resort:
As we noted last week, on weekends between January 14 and March 6, The Park will be hosting what it has dubbed "Family Fun Weekends"; five new and unique experiences meant to draw families into The Park.  This weekend is "Kickin' Country Weekend" at The Park, which has featured live music, a hoedown, quilt making and tons of characters (including a couple of rarer ones).  Next weekend's is "Character Fan Days" featuring meet n' greets with characters we voted in!  All events are currently being held at the Festival Arena near Big Thunder Ranch BBQ in Frontierland from 10am to 5pm, Friday through Sunday.  For more information on these and future weekends, check out the Disney Parks Blog.

And sad as it may make many youngsters, today is the last day that Playhouse Disney will be shown in the Hollywood Backlot in Disney California Adventure.  With the introduction of Disney Junior on the Disney Channel on Valentine's Day, room will need to be made for a new show.  If you want to see it one last time with the kiddies, get up immediately and get out there!  Well, not if you're reading this at midnight when it publishes.  The Parks will be closed and no-one will let you in.

Splash Mountain is closed now for refurbishment and won't open up again until sometime in May.  May?!  But hey, It's A Small World reopens on Friday so we can ride that in the meantime.  And Walt Disney World announced this week that its Star Tours will re-open on May 20.  Here's hoping we get an announcement about our version quickly!

Couple of other quick items of note:
The Disney Parks Blog posted a video this week of the work progressing on DCA's Little Mermaid attraction we thought we'd share.

Also, the Village Haus (restaurant) is now open once again in Fantasyland, and we hear it is absolutely yummy.  In particular they have a crazy sounding Angus/Pastrami Burger that we're dying to eat.  And we just may die after having eaten it, as well.

Here At Days In The Park:
Today is the day of our big DLRN Tweet-Up!  We can't wait to meet some folks, take some pictures, ride some attractions and just generally have a good time.  We'll be sure to do a full write-up sometime later this week.

In addition, we'll be up to our usual internet frivolity.  We have our "Wordless Wednesday" and "KILT" posts ready to go, and Amy will be introducing a new segment this week aptly named "Amy's Favorite Things".  Can't wait to get her posting more regularly!

We'll also continue our foray into the Disney Animation Building for our "Saturday Slow-Down" and have a couple of surprise posts for you; read as we have no idea what we're going to write about it.  Won't it be fun when we all find out?
